Eid Milad un Nabi not celebrated in these Muslim countries

Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi 2024: Today many Muslims around the world are celebrating the festival of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi. In Islam, Prophet Muhammad was born today. Indian Muslims know this day as ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’ or Mawlid-un-Nabi. This day is very auspicious for people who follow Islam. According to the Islamic calendar, it is celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of Islam.

Muslims all over the world celebrate this festival. Along with this, parades are taken out on the streets, mosques and houses are also decorated. But you will be surprised to know that in many Muslim countries this festival is not celebrated nor any kind of celebration is done.

Reason for not celebrating ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’?

While some Muslims celebrate the festival of ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’ with great pomp, some Muslims do not celebrate the festival of ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’. It is believed that there is no mention anywhere in the Quran that we should celebrate Maulid al-Nabi or the birthday of Prophet Muhammad. During his lifetime, the Prophet neither did this himself nor asked anyone to do so.

The Prophet neither talked about celebrating during his lifetime nor after his death. According to the experts of Islam, the Prophet emphasized on doing Ibadat (prayer) on the day of his birth.

Muslim communities like Salafi and Wahhabi do not celebrate Mawlid-un-Nabi. According to them, the Prophet never celebrated his birthday during his lifetime, so we should not do so either.

While Muslims all over the world celebrate Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’ with great pomp, some Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar oppose this practice due to their ideology. They believe that there is no record of the Prophet celebrating this day.

There is no mention of the birth of Prophet Muhammad in the 6 famous books of Hadith. Although according to the only story, it is known on which day Prophet Muhammad was born, but nothing can be said clearly about the date. According to Abu Qatada, a Bedouin came to the Prophet and asked him something about fasting on Monday, to which the Prophet said that “This is the day on which I was born”.

What makes Allah happy on the day of ‘Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi’?

  • In Islam, Muslims should pay Zakat on this holy day.
  • Distributing food among the poor is a virtuous act.
  • Prayers should be offered five times a day in mosques and homes.
  • People should be told about the life, qualities, achievements and teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
