A 77-year-old man accused in a murder and robbery case that took place 30 years ago in Iglas, Aligarh, appeared before the court after 30 years. He sought bail from the court citing lack of evidence. But his bail plea was rejected by the court of Sessions Judge Sanjeev Kumar Singh. The special thing is that his name had come up in the statements of his associates. A charge sheet was filed against him for absconding and three of his associates have already been acquitted in the sessions trial.

According to DIG Criminal Ch. Jitendra Singh, the incident took place on 20 December 1995 in Iglas. According to the plaintiff Alauddin, the criminals came to his house for robbery. While fleeing after looting, they shot and killed his brother. In the police investigation, the names of Pappu, Haria, Danveer etc. came to light and they were arrested. Pappu told the name of Ram Gopal of Nahargarhi Baldev Mathura. The police filed a charge sheet in Mafroori.
On the court’s direction, action was taken against Ram Gopal like summons, warrant, attachment etc. But he did not appear. After 30 years, on 5th July this year, he appeared in jail and filed a bail application. In which he said that his name was taken in Pappu’s statements. He did not get information about the case till date. He is a 77 year old man. The other three have been acquitted. He should be granted bail. The prosecution argued that he has appeared after such a long time. He will abscond again. The trial will be affected. On this basis, his bail has been rejected.
