Emergency Controversy: Kangana Ranaut’s most awaited film ‘Emergency’ has been surrounded by a lot of controversies even before its release. The release of the film is in danger. In fact, the Sikh community has been raising objections against this film since the trailer was released and is demanding a ban on its release.
Amidst all this, on Tuesday, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a notice to the makers of the film, including Kangana, asking them to remove the trailer that was released earlier this month.
,Emergency, accused of hurting Sikh sentiments
SGPC secretary Pratap Singh raised objections to the film and revealed that separate letters were written to the Union Information and Broadcasting minister and the CBFC chairman to ban ‘Emergency’. He accused Ranaut of hurting Sikh sentiments and claimed that several “anti-Sikh scenes” had emerged after the film’s trailer was released.
GDPC and Akal Takht also expressed objection
Last week, the GDPC and Akal Takht demanded an immediate ban on the film, claiming that it tries to “assassinate” Sikhs by creating a narrative against them. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami told a press conference that he demanded an FIR against Ranaut and expressed his objection to the film. He said that there have been many such instances in the past when Sikh sentiments were hurt due to the wrong representation of the community in films. While demanding a ban on the film, he called the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ‘biased’ and urged the inclusion of Sikh members in the censor board.
Kangana’s film accused of character assassination of Sikh community
On the other hand, Akal Takht’s Jathedar (head) Giani Raghbir Singh claimed that the film “deliberately misrepresents Sikhs as separatists, which is part of a deeper conspiracy.” He argued that the film “insults” the community and accused Kangana of “deliberate character assassination” of Sikhs.
He said, “The community can never forget the anti-Sikh atrocities of June 1984 and Ranaut’s film is trying to assassinate the character of Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, who has been declared a Qaumi Shaheed (martyr of the community) by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.”
