Epic Games back on Apple App Store, company lifts ban

Epic Games: Earlier this week, Apple banned Epic’s developer account, canceling plans to launch the Epic Games Store (a third-party store) on iOS in the European Union. However, just a day later, Apple lifted the ban from the regulatory framework of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The reversal of its decision means that iPhone users in the European Union will finally be able to get the Epic Games Store and play Fortnite along with other games.

Apple lifts the ban on Epic Games

Let us tell you that, to comply with the European DMA, Apple had to allow third-party app developers to introduce their alternative app stores on iOS in the European Union. Its latest DMA report released on March 7 confirms that, ‘Developers will be able to create alternative (other than Apple App Store) marketplace apps on iOS.’ Apple is going to provide this new facility to the users with the latest iOS 17.4 update. However, you should keep in mind that currently Apple has made such a big change only for iPhone users in the European Union.

However, a day earlier on March 6, Apple had terminated Epic’s developer account, ruining the game maker’s plans to launch its own games store on iOS. Now on March 8, Epic shared an update confirming that Apple has reinstated its developer account following the public backlash.

Third-party app will run in iPhone

Epic wrote in its blog post, “Apple has informed us and has committed to the European Commission that they will reinstate our developer accounts.” This means that iPhone users in the European Union will now also be able to restore their developer accounts. Will be able to download third-party apps. Apart from this, iPhone users there will now be able to download games like Fortnite from Epic Game Stores on their iPhone and will also be able to play it on their iPhone.
