From 1991 to 2014, Sharad Yadav was elected MP from Madhepura seat in Bihar.

In the year 2014, Sharad Yadav had to face defeat from Madhepura Lok Sabha seat. Yadav was also the national president of Nitish’s party Janata Dal United, he is also called the political guru of Nitish Kumar.
