Voting for the last phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 has ended today i.e. on 1st June. When was the exit poll conducted for the first time?
Exit poll is a post-election survey process. Exit polls of previous elections
Let us tell you that in 2009, in the results of four major poll agencies, UPA got an average of 195 seats. Whereas NDA got 185 seats. However, the election results were completely different from the exit poll results. Because UPA got 262 seats. Whereas NDA got 158 seats. Unlike the exit poll, UPA got 54 seats more. Whereas NDA got 22 seats less than the average.
In the 2014 exit poll, BJP-led NDA was estimated to get an average of 283 seats. Whereas Congress-led UPA was estimated to get 105 seats. But the actual results were completely different from this. Because in that election, NDA won a record 336 seats. In which BJP alone got 282 seats. Whereas UPA was reduced to a total of 60 seats, in which Congress got only 44 seats.
In the 2019 exit poll, most of the poll agencies had said that NDA would win 306 seats. Whereas UPA was said to win 120 seats. But the exit poll results proved wrong this time too. In 2019, NDA got 353 seats. In which BJP alone got 300 seats. Whereas UPA got only 93 seats. In this, Congress got only 52 seats.
Rules regarding exit poll
The Election Commission has also made some rules for showing exit polls. According to the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), exit polls can be shown on TV channels 30 minutes after the last vote is cast. According to these rules, the exit poll data could not be released before 6:30 pm on June 1.
