The LG and the Delhi government are again at loggerheads over the issue of rejuvenation of Yamuna. In the 5th meeting of the High Level Committee (HLC) headed by the Lieutenant Governor on Friday, the LG expressed satisfaction that the efforts of all departments and stakeholders have started bearing fruit.
In the last one year, the BOD level at Shahdara drain in Yamuna has been claimed to have reduced by 40 percent while ISBT has claimed a reduction of 31 percent. On the other hand, Delhi Government Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has claimed that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is continuously working on ground issues to prevent pollution in Yamuna. The 6 point action in November 2021 has also been accused of trying to take credit by claiming to have already shared it.
On the other hand, it was told in the meeting of the committee that the water quality of Yamuna and Najafgarh drains has continuously improved due to desilting and cleaning of drains under the supervision of LG. Expressing satisfaction over the efforts made for the rejuvenation of Yamuna, the LG reiterated the need for mutual coordination. The committee is monitoring the rejuvenation of Yamuna under 8 specific action areas with set targets. Under this, 100 percent treatment of sewage, trapping of all drains, construction of sewerage network in unauthorized colonies and JJ clusters, industrial pollution management, septage management, restoration of Yamuna floodplain, use of treated waste water and environmental management plan of Najafgarh lake are included. Are.
Officers should complete the work in stipulated time: Lieutenant Governor
In the high-level committee meeting, the LG cautioned the officials that the works related to Yamuna rejuvenation should be completed within the stipulated time. For this there should be better coordination between the departments. It was informed in the meeting that the work of cleaning Najafgarh drain has been started after the committee formed under the supervision of LG. Due to this the quality of water of Nullah and Yamuna has improved. Significant improvement was observed in the BOD levels in the drain and river water in the last one year.
Trying to take credit for the works of the government: Saurabh
Taking a dig at the meeting of the high-level committee, Bhardwaj said that continuous efforts are being made to take credit for the work done by the Delhi government for the rejuvenation of Yamuna. Everyone knows that LG has no financial authority to sanction any project of Delhi Jal Board and IFC. Bhardwaj raised the question whether LG Sahab can show any new work that he has done or beyond the 6 action points.
