Farmer Ashwini Kumar has brought a new revolution in the field of farming in Dowal village of Khod block of Jammu and Kashmir. By adopting strawberry cultivation along with traditional farming, he has not only increased his income but has also become a source of inspiration for other farmers of the village.
Ashwini combined the traditional farming methods of her father Prabhat Chand with modern technology and started strawberry cultivation last year. In March this year, his crop gave huge profits, due to which his income more than doubled. Now this farming has become a part of their identity.
Ashwini says, progress is not possible without modern technology and new thinking. Despite living in the border area, I made new experiments in strawberry cultivation, which were successful. Now village women and farmers are also taking steps towards adopting it. The horticulture department has also made a big contribution in strawberry cultivation. The department officials provide guidance and necessary resources to the farmers from time to time.
Strawberry became a means of doubling income
Local woman Shrestha Kumari said that strawberry cultivation has improved our economic condition. Whenever we need help, the department is ready to help us. We want other farmers to also adopt this profitable farming. HDO of Horticulture Department, Amit Saraf said, the government is running many schemes for farmers.
By taking advantage of these, farmers of border areas can also move towards prosperity. Ashwini Kumar’s hard work and foresight has given a new direction to the farmers of Dowal village. His success story gives hope for the future of farming in the border areas.
