Farooq Abdullah on BJP: All the parties are busy making strategies for the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah targeted BJP on Thursday (September 12). During this, Farooq Abdullah claimed that when Indian Airlines flight IC 814 going to Delhi was hijacked 25 years ago, he had told the then BJP-led central government not to release the three terrorists in exchange for releasing the hostages.
Attacking the BJP, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said, “They think they will strengthen the country despite making mistakes continuously,” India Today reported.
Know what is the matter?
On 24 December 1999, a Delhi-bound plane was hijacked less than an hour after takeoff from Kathmandu. As per the hijackers’ demand, the Centre released Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar. All of them were high-profile terrorists. Farooq Abdullah was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir at the time of that incident.

Meanwhile, during a program in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah said, due to that kidnapping case, the then BJP government had released “three terrorists. You are seeing its result. Terrorist activities are happening. I had told the BJP government at that time not to do this. They did not listen to me. They think that they will strengthen the country despite making mistakes continuously.
Why is the central government negotiating with China? – Farooq Abdullah
On talks with Pakistan to resolve the issue of terrorism, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah asked why the central government was talking to China when the truth is that Beijing has “occupied” India’s land. Abdullah further said, ‘Vajpayee had said that friends can be changed, but not neighbours. If you are their friend, nations will progress. But if there is hostility, progress will stop. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister when the plane hijacking took place.
The central government has failed to end terrorism
Stepping up his attacks against the Centre, he said despite having full control over Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370, they failed to control terrorism.
