The Supreme Court has given a major decision regarding transfer-posting of officers in Delhi. A five-judge constitution bench of the Supreme Court has given the right of transfer-posting of officers to the Delhi government. The court said that only the elected government in Delhi should be given the right to administrative services.

The bench had reserved its verdict on January 18 this year after hearing all the parties. The matter was heard by a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The bench comprises Justices MR Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and PS Narasimha.

This is not the first time that the Supreme Court’s decision is coming on the fight between Delhi and the Central Government. Prior to this, on July 4, 2018, the Supreme Court had given its verdict on several issues in the Center vs Delhi dispute, but had left some issues like control over services ie officers for further hearing. On 14 February 2019, a two-judge bench had given a decision on this issue, but the decision of both the judges, Justice AK Sikri and Justice Ashok Bhushan, was different.
