Recently, in the data released by the Central Government, it was revealed that in January this year, the wholesale price of wheat was Rs 2228 per quintal, which has increased by 22 percent to Rs 2721 per quintal in November. The central government has expressed concern over the rise in flour prices.

Wheat production has decreased in the country. The central government has argued behind this that Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan are the major wheat producing states. In the year 2022, wheat crop got damaged due to excessive heat wave. Due to this the production decreased. Talking about wheat production, it decreased from 10 crore 95.9 lakh tonnes in the year 2020-21 to 10 crore 68.4 lakh tonnes in 2021-22. All India yields of wheat have decreased from 3,521 kg per hectare in the year 2021-22 to 3,507 kg per hectare in the year 2021-22.
Steps taken by the central government to control the prices
The central government has also taken steps to control wheat prices. The government had banned the export of wheat in May. On the other hand, all India monthly average wholesale price of wheat is Rs. 2,228 per quintal in January, Rs. 2,230 in February, Rs. 2,339 in March, Rs. 2,384 in April, Rs. 2,352 in May, Rs. 2,316 in June, Rs. 2,409 in July. quintal, was Rs 2,486 in August, Rs 2,516 in September, Rs 2,571 in October and Rs 2,721 per quintal in November. Officials of the central government say that the condition of the prices of wheat and other grains and vegetables is determined by its demand, supply and international prices in the market.
