Dinesh Karthik was recently seen answering questions from fans on a Cricbuzz show. One of the questions was whether Shubman Gill should go to the middle order in the Champions Trophy and Yashasvi Jaiswal should open with Rohit Sharma? Reacting to this, Karthik said, “Why? The combination of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill is very good. Yes, I believe that Jaiswal has the opportunity to become a backup opener and if Shubman does not do well then Jaiswal will definitely get a chance. At the same time, India’s middle order is also very strong.”
Shubman Gill’s recent form
Shubman Gill was last seen playing for India in the recently concluded series against Sri Lanka. Since the Champions Trophy will be played in ODI format, if we look at Gill’s ODI form, he scored 57 runs in three matches in the series against Sri Lanka at an average of just 19. What is even worse is that his strike rate in this series was 61.29.
Before the next series, Shubman Gill will have a chance to regain his lost form by performing well in the Duleep Trophy. The Duleep Trophy is starting from September 5, in which Gill’s performance will be very important from the point of view of the Test series against Bangladesh.
