A speeding Eco car hit five women of a family who were crossing the road near Hathipur turn in Maharajpur, Kanpur. Four women died on the spot in the accident. The injured girl is being treated at the hospital. The deceased include two sisters and a mother-daughter. After the accident, there was a jam on the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway for one and a half hours. Police officers who reached the spot removed the crowd and the damaged car from there. Then the traffic system could be restored.
Poonam Pandey (40), wife of Vijay Kumar Pandey, resident of Shyam Nagar, Chakeri, along with her married daughter Divya Tiwari (25), living in Collectoraterangaj Neelwali Gali, went to meet her sister-in-law Sarita Devi (50) wife Jitendra Dwivedi at their house in Maharajpur on Tuesday morning. Had gone to Hathipur village. Mother and daughter stayed in Sarita’s house the whole day. Sarita’s other sister-in-law Jyoti Pandey (40), wife of Vijay Kumar Pandey, who lives in the same village, also reached there. At around seven in the evening, Poonam left with daughter Divya to come to Kanpur. Sarita was going with her daughter Aparna and sister Jyoti to board the vehicle coming to Kanpur. All five were crossing the road from Kanpur-Fatehpur lane of Kanpur-Prayagraj Highway towards Fatehpur-Kanpur lane. At the same time, a speeding Daggamar Eeco car coming from Fatehpur towards Kanpur hit all five. Seeing the accident, people present at the spot ran, then the driver left the car on the spot and ran away. Upon receiving the information, the police, with the help of family members and villagers, took all the injured to Kanshi Ram Hospital in Ramadevi. There Sarita, her sister Jyoti, sister-in-law Poonam and Poonam’s daughter Divya were declared dead one by one by the doctors. Meanwhile, injured Aparna was referred to Hallet for treatment. After the accident, there was a jam on the Kanpur-Prayagraj highway. After receiving the information, DCP East SK Singh, ADCP Lakhan Singh arrived with forces from many police stations including Maharajpur, Narwal, Chakeri, Cantt. Officers investigated the scene. After this, the jam was cleared by removing the crowd and the damaged car. During this time, there was a queue of vehicles for half a kilometer on both sides of the highway.
