Charles Sobhraj News: French serial killer Charles Sobhraj has been released from Nepal Central Jail on Friday (December 23). The Supreme Court of Nepal had ordered the release of Charles Sobhraj on Wednesday (December 21) due to old age and deteriorating health. Sobhraj was serving a sentence since 2003 in the murder of two American citizens.
Nepal’s court decided to release 78-year-old Sobhraj after serving 95 percent of his sentence. On Wednesday, while giving the order, the court said that according to the jail rule, if any person has completed 75 percent of his sentence, is above 65 years and has good behavior, then he is released. Sobhraj’s lawyers had been appealing to the court for a long time to release him from jail.
Orders given to reach the country within 15 days
According to the Senior Citizen Act 2063, Sobhraj’s lawyer had placed a demand for his release before the court. Now the court has also ordered that Sobhraj should be sent to his country within 15 days. After keeping French citizen Sobhraj in the Central Jail for a long time, the Supreme Court had ordered his release on December 21 itself. Before Sobhraj’s medical checkup, Central Jail officer Ishwari Prasad Pandey told that we had requested the Kathmandu and Bhaktapur district courts to drop every case against him.
Now we will complete the process of getting him out of jail and will hand over Sobhraj to the immigration. Dangerous criminal Shobhraj had requested the Nepal Authority to stay in the hotel till his heart surgery is done at Gangalal Heart Hospital, about which the authority is still considering.
