Farrukhabad: Sheikhpur place in Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh is considered very famous for its laddus. The laddu made here goes not only to India but also to Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Britain. Lakhs of people from India and abroad come to the fair held every year at Shekhpur Dargah in Kamalganj development block of Farrukhabad district. To prepare for the fair on this occasion, thousands of artisans across the district are busy making special laddus. Different quality laddus are being made at the sweet shops in Kamalganj town near Shekhpur village.
This laddu is prepared in a different way which enhances its taste. People from many cities of the country order it. This laddu has fans in foreign countries too. Whoever tastes this laddu once looks eager to eat it every time. Laddu worth crores of rupees are traded in this fair which lasts for three days.
Many quality laddus are ready
Sonu Gupta, director of Sonu Mishthan Bhandar Kamalganj, said that a lot of cost has to be incurred to prepare this laddu. Many quality laddus are prepared in this. These laddus are made with gram flour and dry fruits as well as desi ghee. Generally, these laddus are sold here at Rs 150 to Rs 300 per kg depending on the quality.
How are these laddus made?
According to the shopkeeper, a big pan is used to prepare this laddu. In this, ghee is heated and the mixture of gram flour and rice prepared in advance is placed on a fine sized sieve and pressed. Due to which the shape of the boondi becomes longer. Which is called sev boondi. After this, these boondi are put in the sugar mixed syrup prepared earlier. When this boondi is filled with syrup, it is cooled and prepared in the shape of round laddu. This laddu is decorated with nuts, cashew nuts and almonds in the form of dry fruits.
