Fungal infections are more common in places on your body that trap moisture


Fungal infections are more common in parts of your body where there is moisture or where there is a lot of skin rubbing against each other. It is more common in people who have poor blood circulation or diabetes. All of this together weakens your immunity. This increases the risk of infection. In particular, it sometimes causes serious infections.

Fungal infection also known as mycosis

Fungal infection, also known as mycosis, can affect the skin, hair, nails, mucous membranes, lungs and other parts of the body. Symptoms can range from mild to very severe and depend on the type of fungus. Antifungal drugs are usually used to treat fungal infections. People who have weak immunity and poor blood circulation are at greater risk of fungal infection. Diabetes patients are also at a higher risk of fungal infection.

When a particular part of the body is getting infected repeatedly, it is called fungal infection. This infection can occur in the skin, nails, hair, vagina as well as in the mouth. There are many types of fungal infections. It can be a small ringworm wound as well as a life-threatening infection. People with weak immunity, humid environment, overweight and those who sweat a lot often get fungal infection.

Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments. Therefore, it is important to maintain good hygiene to prevent fungal infections. Wash your skin regularly with mild soap and water, especially after sweating. Dry your skin thoroughly, paying special attention to areas that tend to accumulate moisture, such as the legs, groin, and underarms.

Wear comfortable clothes

When we spoke to Dr Avinash Jadhav, dermatologist at Ruby Hall Clinic, he said choose loose-fitting, breathable clothes made from natural fibres like cotton. This helps your skin breathe and reduces the risk of moisture accumulation. When it comes to footwear, choose shoes that allow air circulation, and avoid wearing the same pair every day. Moisture-wicking socks can also help keep your feet dry.

Take special care of the cleanliness of nails

Viral infections affect the nails, especially the toenails. To prevent this, keep your nails trimmed and clean. Avoid cutting the cuticles, as this can create an entry point for fungus. If you visit a nail salon frequently, make sure they follow strict hygiene practices to avoid cross-contamination.

Do not walk barefoot in public places

Public places such as swimming pools, locker rooms, and showers are breeding grounds for fungus. Always wear flip-flops or shower shoes in these environments to protect your feet from coming into direct contact with potentially contaminated surfaces.
