Goa Murder Case: A Goa court on Monday (January 15) extended the police custody of Soochana Seth, accused in the murder of his four-year-old son, by five days. The police demanded extension of her custody and told the court that Seth was not cooperating in the investigation.
After the end of six days of custody, Seth, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the startup company, was produced in the Goa Children’s Court. The police told the court that they were yet to ascertain the motive of the crime and also needed to confront the accused with details of his estranged husband Venkat Raman’s statement.
Seth (39) was arrested from Chitradurga in Karnataka on January 8 when she was traveling in a taxi with her son’s body in a bag. He was brought to Goa from there. A court in Mapusa city had sent him to police custody for six days. He is accused of murdering his son in a service apartment in Candolim, Goa.
What did the police say?
A senior police officer said on Monday that the accused is not cooperating with the investigators at all and is continuously denying the murder of her son.
“She is admitting everything else, including that she carried the child’s body in a bag, but she refuses to admit that she killed him,” he said. She repeatedly claims that her husband is responsible for the child’s death.
The officer said, ‘We requested for extension of his custody as we want more time to interrogate him. We also have to complete other formalities like taking his DNA sample. We still have to find out the motive for the murder.
What did the police say in the court?
The police told the court that they want to conduct a DNA test to match the accused and the child for which samples need to be collected. The officer said that this is part of the process.
He said, ‘The recording of the statement of Seth’s husband Venkat Raman has been completed. The IO (investigating officer) wants to re-examine this statement in front of him (Seth), for which there was a need to extend the custody.
