A five-member team of senior railway officials probing the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment has blamed faulty rails for the mishap. However, one of the panel members disagreed with the claim, sources said.

SSE found the defect at 1:30 pm, the train passed at 2:28 pm

The investigation team report said that the senior section engineer (SSE) of Lucknow division, under which the section falls, detected the IMR fault (immediate removal fault) at 1:30 pm and the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express crossed Motiganj station at 2:28 pm. It said that at 2:30 pm, the Motiganj station master was given a speed control memo for passing trains through the fault spot. According to that, the train was to pass the fault spot at a speed of 30 kmph. According to the report, the train derailed at 2:31 pm when the engine passed the fault spot.

CRS begins investigation

The Railway Safety Commissioner (CRS) started investigating the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express accident that happened between Motiganj-Jhilahi station on Thursday from Saturday. He investigated all the aspects related to the accident. CRS Pranajeev Saxena of Northeast Railway Lucknow Zone reached the spot by special train at 02.57 pm on Saturday. He inspected the track and the damaged coach for 28 minutes. He inquired about the accident from the employees near the railway crossing. He also saw the report prepared by the department. Northeast Railway Chief Safety Officer Mukesh Mehrotra and Additional Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Kumar were also with him. Northeast Railway General Manager Saumya Mathur started the investigation with the internal committee of the railway and restored the rail traffic by repairing the up and down tracks late on Friday night.

The responsible people were busy hiding the moisture near the track

More than 30 railway workers were on alert near the railway track on Saturday. They were covering the moist places by putting ballast and soil. Even after this exercise, waterlogging was visible near the track. It is being told that due to waterlogging the track became weak and a big accident happened.

41 officers and employees summoned

41 railway officials and employees from Gonda, Dibrugarh and Guwahati (Maligaon) have been summoned to the DRM office in Lucknow on Sunday. It is believed that after recording their statements, many people may face action soon.
