The National Democratic Alliance government of Bihar has cancelled government contracts worth Rs 826 crore after irregularities were found during an investigation. These 350 contracts were given for the supply of safe drinking water in rural areas during the previous Mahagathbandhan government led by RJD.

State Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Minister Neeraj Kumar Singh said that departmental investigation revealed that proper procedure was not followed in the allocation of 350 contracts related to rural water supply system during the previous government in the state. These contracts were related to the installation of hand pumps, mini water supply system etc. After receiving the investigation report, the PHED Minister called a meeting of senior officials, in which it was decided to cancel the contracts.

Neeraj Kumar said, the department has submitted the preliminary investigation report related to these contracts to the competent authority of the state government, so that a thorough investigation can be done. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty in this case. During the previous grand alliance government, RJD leader Lalit Yadav was the PHED minister. Neeraj Singh said that the previous government had given a total of 1160 contracts worth Rs 4600 crore of the PHED department in 17 months. The remaining contracts are also being investigated.
