Onion Price: Any dish made in India without onion is bland. Onion is the most important thing among the things used in food. This enhances the taste of any vegetable or any dish. But the last few times have been full of ups and downs regarding the onion market.

The Indian government had banned the export of onion on December 8 last year. The ban on onion has now been lifted. Now in such a situation, people are worried that onion prices may touch the sky again. Let us know whether onion prices can really increase.

Why was the ban lifted?

Seeing the rising prices of onion in India, the Indian government had completely banned the export of onion on 8th of December last year. It was imposed in December and was till March. But considering the circumstances, it was extended a little further. Now the government has lifted the ban on export of onion yesterday i.e. on 4th May.

Due to good Rabi crop in India and forecast of good monsoon, there will be good yield in Kharif. Keeping this possibility in mind, the government has decided to lift the ban on exports. The government has fixed the minimum price for export at $ 550 per tonne i.e. approximately Rs 45,800.

Will onion prices increase again?

After the ban on onion has been lifted, the general public is again wondering whether onion prices will rise again. But at present this possibility is not being expressed. Nidhi Khare, Secretary of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs in India, has given information while talking about this.

He said about this, “Despite being exported, there will be no significant impact on the domestic prices of onion. Even if the prices increase, they will not increase significantly. Government departments will also keep an eye on the entire situation. The government will help farmers as well as consumers. Also committed to protecting interests.”

Along with this, he informed that the onion production in Rabi crop is estimated to be 191 lakh tonnes. Which is enough for the quantity consumed in the country. Along with this, he said that the government is also increasing the buffer stock of onion.
