Lilavati (50) of Etaua village died on Wednesday morning after being burnt in a fire caused by a cooking gas leak in Khutar, Shahjahanpur. Her grandson’s naming ceremony was being held on Tuesday. The family is inconsolable after the accident.
Lilavati’s son Shobhit said that many guests had come to the house to attend the naming ceremony. The feast went on till Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning at 4 o’clock, when his mother tried to light the gas stove to make tea for the guests, gas was leaking. During this time a fire broke out. In a short while, his mother got caught in the fire and her clothes started burning. Hearing the screams, the family and guests reached the spot, but by then the fire had reached the roof and strong flames started rising.
Happiness turned into mourning
Hearing the noise, the villagers also reached the spot and with great difficulty controlled the fire, but by then she had died of burns. The happy atmosphere in the house turned into mourning due to Lilavati’s death. The family informed the police about the accident. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and after taking information about the incident, sent the body for postmortem.
It is not yet known whether the gas was leaking from the pipe or the regulator was damaged. Police station in-charge Sanjay Kumar said that further action will be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report and investigation. Husband Ram Singh Kushwaha, sons Shobhit, Pavinder, daughters Roli and Shanky are inconsolable after Lilavati’s death.
