The film “Grudge” written and starring Turkish actor Ilmaz Erdogan has recently appeared on Netflix. One thing has been proved again and again in every corner of the world that the utility of violence will remain zero. In small matters, even if people end the matter by fighting with each other, but if you want peace forever and you want to live without any burden on your mind, then you will have to give preference to peace instead of quarrels. The plot of the film is not new yet you like it because the hero of the film is in the police and his compulsions keep on obeying the orders like any employed person. Turkey continues to register its presence in world cinema. Turkish web series “Ertugul” is compared to “Game of Thrones”.
Chief Inspector Haroon (Ilmaz Erdogan) is awarded the title of “Policeman of the Year”. After the party, Haroon leaves for home in a taxi. The driver takes them to an isolated place and attacks them. In order to save his life, the driver gets killed by Aaron. Aaron erases his fingerprints and runs away. The next day the dead body of that driver is found hanging from a crane outside the police station. A case is registered and a fear settles in Haroon’s mind. One of his accomplices Tunkay (Sem Yigit Ujumoglu) comes to know about his reality but instead of bringing the evidence in front of everyone, he hands it over to Haroon. As the investigation progresses, Haroon realizes that he has become a victim of a cunning man’s deep trick. While solving the conspiracy, Haroon comes to know that all this game was created by a girl who had lost her father due to some of Haroon’s case. That girl and her secret accomplice brother, create this whole game to trap Haroon. Will Aaron be able to clear himself of the blame for this murder? Watch the film to understand this.
Such films were seen in Hollywood in the 90s. A murder happened by mistake which is actually the result of a long planning. Hero has a desire to atone for some crime, but circumstances or laziness do not allow him to do so. The police always consider themselves right and the hero can never make a mistake. Grudge is enjoyable to watch because the acting is good and the pace of the story is also good. You can make predictions about the suspense, but how that suspense will open has become a bit interesting. Memorable suspense films usually involve serial murders or the investigation of who will be the murderer keeps you hooked. If it is so in grudge or not, still you are not able to sympathize with the hero in the expression on Ilmaz Erdogan’s face and in the process of getting closer to the truth in layer by layer investigation.

There are some good reasons to watch this film. There is no drama inserted anywhere in the film. As the police officers solve the murder one by one, collect evidence and with every step you can clearly see the fear of the culprit being caught, you start feeling connected to the story. Apart from Ilmaz Erdogan, the acting of fellow actors is also good. The last scene of the film is a flashback which is proof of the honesty of the story. In this scene, Sem Yigit has defined the possibilities of acting in a new way from his very first film. Ahmet Kenan, the performer of the band named Gevende, has composed the music of this film. The point to be heard here is that it can be understood from Ahmet’s music that how much attention is to be given to which emotion in each scene. Beyond Turkey’s musical tradition, Ahmet has decorated every scene in the film with the help of world music.
At the end of the film, when the hero Haroon comes face to face with the person with whose help the whole trap was created to trap him, Haroon himself gets shocked. One remembers the lesson of Mahatma Gandhi when he says that it is necessary to end the feeling of envy, jealousy, revenge or revenge. Revenge of blood cannot be blood and hence he wants to rectify his unknowingly mistake. Aaron throws down his pistol. His opponent is shocked by his unexpected act and remembers how Haroon taught him to be a good person as a child. Full of self-reproach, the man shoots himself and by then the police arrest Haroon. To understand the value of this one scene, its beauty, its depth, it is necessary to watch the film. Watch “Grudge” to understand how we can get rid of our guilt and extinguish the fire of revenge, in this atmosphere of hopelessness, hell-bent on killing.
