By-elections were held on this seat after Jadeja’s resignation. Pradyuman Singh Jadeja contested on a BJP ticket in this by-election. In this by-election, Pradyuman Singh Jadeja of BJP defeated Shantilal Senghani of Congress by more than 36,000 votes.

Congress had registered victory in 2012 elections

The Congress had won this seat in the 2012 elections. Congress’ Chhabilbhai Patel defeated BJP’s Parsottam Bhanushali by a margin of 7,000 votes. A total of eight candidates were in the fray in that election. Barring the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining six candidates were forfeited. BJP has won this seat in 1990, 2002 and 2007. In 1962, the Swatantra Party had won from here. Apart from this, Congress has won all the elections here.

Dalit community is a decisive voter on this seat
The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Pradyuman Singh Jadeja from this seat. Mamad Jung Jat from Congress was in the fray. Whereas, the Aam Aadmi Party had given ticket to Vasantbhai Valji Khetani. Shakti Singh Gohil, one of the prominent faces of the Gujarat Congress, is believed to have influence on this seat. Voting was held here in the first phase on December 1.
