The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. Four seats fell in the lap of others.
The Anand assembly seat in Anand district is one of the seats in the state where the ruling BJP has dominated for decades. The BJP has won a total of six elections here. BJP’s Yogesh R. Patel defeated sitting MLA Kantibhai Sodha Parmar (Bhagat) from Congress by 41,623 votes.

Congress won here in 2017

The Congress had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election Congress candidate Kantibhai Sodha Parmar defeated BJP’s Yogesh Patel by just 5286 thousand votes. There were only three candidates in the fray in this election. The third candidate, Dave Jatinbhai Dineshchandra Dave, had contested as an independent. In this election, Dave could get only 1,009 votes and his deposit was forfeited.
Prior to 2017, this seat was won by the BJP in the 2012 elections. Dilipbhai Patel, who contested from BJP, defeated Congress candidate Kantibhai Sodha Parmar.

Due to the Patidar movement, the BJP got a setback here.
In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP lost most of the seats in Anand district, including the Anand assembly seat itself. The party is believed to have suffered a lot here due to the Patidar agitation.

The Congress had fielded sitting MLA Kantibhai Sodha Parmar Parmar on this seat for the 2022 elections. Whereas, BJP had made Yogeshbhai Ravjibhai Patel its candidate from here. Girishkumar Sedaliya was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling on this seat was held in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.
