The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
Gandevi seat of Navsari district is reserved for Scheduled Tribe. The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Nareshbhai Maganbhai Patel as its candidate from this seat. In this election, BJP MLA Nareshbhai Maganbhai Patel defeated Congress candidate Ashok Patel by 93,166 votes.
BJP won six in 2017
In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had won this seat for the 6th time in a row. BJP’s Nareshbhai Maganbhai Patel defeated Congress candidate Suresh Maganbhai Halpati by 57,000 votes. Naresh Bhai Patel got more than one lakh 24 thousand votes. Whereas, Suresh Halapati got more than 66 thousand seven hundred votes. Apart from BJP and Congress, other candidates Sunilbhai Patel were in the fray in this election. Sunilbhai got only 6,077 votes and lost his deposit.
Karsan Bhai Patel won three consecutive elections
This seat has been held by the BJP since 1995. BJP veteran Karsan Bhai Patel won three consecutive elections from here in 1995, 1998 and 2002. Laxmanbhai Patel of BJP won from here in 2007, Mangubhai Patel of BJP won in 2012.
The number of tribal voters is the highest in this reserved seat. About 41 percent of the total population are tribal voters. The seat went to polls in the first phase on December 1. The results came on 8 December.

Gandevi seat is one of the four seats under Navsari district. In 2017, BJP had won three out of four seats in the district. Whereas, Congress was successful in winning only one seat.
