The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
The Limbayat assembly seat in Surat district has been special from the BJP’s point of view as the party had won both the elections held here before this election. The BJP had fielded sitting MLA Sangeeta Ben Patil as its candidate for this seat. Sangitaben defeated AAP’s Pankaj Tayade by 58,009 votes.
The importance of this seat for BJP also remains because this seat comes in Navsari Lok Sabha and its MP is Gujarat BJP President CR Patil. Assembly elections were held on this seat for the first time in 2012. Congress is still waiting for its first win on this seat.
BJP had won here in 2017
The BJP had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had given ticket to sitting MLA Sangeeta Ben Patil. He defeated Dr. Ravindra Patil of Congress by 31 thousand votes. A total of 16 candidates were in the fray in this election. The deposits of 14 candidates were forfeited except those of BJP and Congress. Prior to 2017, the BJP had won this seat in the 2012 elections as well. In that election, Sangeeta Ben Patil, who contested from the BJP, defeated Suresh Sonwane of the Congress.
For the 2022 elections, the BJP had fielded sitting MLA Sangeeta Ben Patil as its candidate for this seat. At the same time, Congress had declared Gopal Devidas Patil as its candidate. The seat went to polls in the first phase on December 1. The results came on 8 December.
BJP won 14 seats in Surat district in 2017
Limbayat Vidhan Sabha seat is one of the 16 Vidhan Sabha seats under Surat district. In 2017, BJP got a bumper victory in 14 out of 16 seats in the district. Whereas, the Congress was successful in winning only two seats.
