To ensure that emergency vehicles have unhindered passage on the road, Gurugram Traffic Police has announced a strict and new measure. Media reports quoted a senior official as saying that traffic policemen will start imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on people blocking the way for ambulances and fire engines. And this step will start from this week.

DCP (traffic) Virendra Vij said zonal officers will record video evidence of such incidents. Offenders blocking the way for emergency vehicles will receive instant online challans along with video evidence of the incident.

The fine, under Section 194E of the Motor Vehicles Act, is aimed at providing unhindered access to ambulances carrying critically ill patients to hospitals.

DCP Vij also said that Gurugram traffic police is already providing green corridor facility for ambulances carrying organs for transplant to various hospitals. Which helps in saving patients in critical condition.

The strict measure comes in response to rising concerns over the number of incidents where emergency vehicles are delayed en route due to traffic congestion or reckless driving. Such delays can have serious consequences. Traffic jams are often seen in Gurugram during office hours. And hence finding a solution to this issue becomes extremely important. So that at least emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire engines can be easily given way to reach their destination on time.
