Nine children drowned in the Ganges when they went to immerse the urn at Kachla Gangaghat in Badaun at the conclusion of Shrimad Bhagwat Katha from village Nagla Rati of Hasayan area in Hathras. When the local police started searching for them in the Ganges with the help of divers, the bodies of a teenager and a teenager were recovered, while seven teenagers were saved. The drowning included five teenage girls and four teenagers.

Bhagwat Katha started in Nagla Rati on June 8 in village Nagla Rati. Bhandara and Prasad were distributed on Saturday. On Sunday, the Katha organizer took Kalash girls and villagers to Kachla Gangaghat in Badaun district to immerse the Kalash in the Ganges. After immersion of the urn, all the people there were taking bath in the Ganges. During this, 10-year-old Shivani of village Nagla Rati resident Mohan Singh Baghel and 10-year-old son of Veerpal Singh, Priyanshu, including nine teenagers and teenagers drowned in the Ganges.

The villagers immediately informed the police about the incident. When the police searched them in the Ganges with the help of divers, the bodies of Shivani and Priyanshu were recovered, while the remaining seven children were safely taken out. He was taken to the district hospital for Kasganj for treatment. There the doctor declared Shivani and Priyanshu dead.

Kachla outpost incharge Pramod Kumar told that more than ten divers searched for Priyanshu and Shivani. Due to the strong current, Shivani’s body was carried away for about half a kilometre. The relatives have also denied the police action. That’s why even the post mortem of the dead bodies was not done.

Neither the depth was guessed, nor did anyone stop the children from going ahead

The children and women of the village Rati ka Nagla moved away from the crowd to take bath from the ghat towards the western end. None of the men present with him thought it appropriate to come forward before him and guess the depth. Nor did anyone stop the children from moving forward in the Ganges. If someone had interrupted, the children might not have gone deeper.
