On May 28, the United Kisan Morcha submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) Collectorate in protest against Delhi Police detaining wrestlers trying to march towards the new Parliament House. Demands were made to allow women wrestlers to stage a sit-in at Jantar Mantar and to arrest Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
United Kisan Morcha office bearer Yogesh Kumar OK said that the daughters who had raised the country’s prestige in the whole world, today they have to beg for justice for themselves. The incompetent government is not even ready to listen to the cries of those daughters. Several women wrestlers, who have brought laurels to the country by winning medals in international sporting events, have made serious allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party and President of the Wrestling Federation of India recognized by the Government of India.
These women wrestlers have been protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi since 23rd April. The central government failed to fulfill the promise made to the players in January 2023 to conduct an inquiry against the accused MP and take necessary steps. The players had to approach the Supreme Court. When the players continued their protest and took out a peaceful march in Delhi on 28 May, their protest march was brutally suppressed by the central government’s Delhi Police. Filed an FIR against them and removed them to their peaceful protest site at Jatar Mantar.
The United Kisan Morcha demanded that the central government allow women wrestlers to continue their sit-in at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. Action should be taken against the police officers responsible for the brutality with the women wrestlers. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be arrested and charge sheet filed against him at the earliest and he should be interrogated in custody for prosecution. Dialogue
