WHO report states that high sodium foods increase blood pressure and increase the risk of diseases like heart diseases, gastric cancer, obesity and osteoporosis. It is estimated that more than 19 lakh deaths every year are due to excessive sodium intake.

According to the American Heart Association, everyone should consume less than 2,300 milligrams of sodium per day. The Institute of Medicine recommends having about 1,500 milligrams, or one teaspoon, of sodium every day. Health experts say that not only salt, sodium reaches the body every day through many things. In such a situation, one should be careful about these things.
How dangerous is excessive salt consumption?
Risk of high blood pressure and heart disease
According to health experts, excessive amount of sodium in food causes high blood pressure. This also increases the risk of heart disease and stroke which can be fatal. Due to excess of sodium, calcium also starts decreasing in the body, which causes damage to the bones. High sodium also increases the risk of atherosclerosis. This can increase the risk of heart attack and stroke manifold.
