Dheeraj Kumar/Madhepura. On hearing the name of potato chop, almost everyone’s mouth starts watering. Why not come, when hot Banarasi potato chop is available in your city too, then why would anyone shy away from eating it? Yes! Brijbali Prajapati, a resident of Azamgarh opposite Kumarkhand block of Madhepura district, has been making Banarasi potato chop and feeding it to people for the last 38 years. Currently the rate is Rs 5 per piece. Since there is a state highway in front of the block, anyone passing through this route definitely stops to eat Brijbali’s potato chop. On an average, 20-25 kg of potatoes are consumed every day. Along with potato chops they also sell four types of bhunja.
Brijbali Prajapati explains that Banarasi potato chop is quite different from the potato chop of Bihar. For this we use spices prepared at home. Due to this, the taste of potato chop gets enhanced. Banarasi Potato Chop has become the first choice of the people here. This is the reason why he has been running his shop here for the last 38 years. He says that he consumes five hundred pieces of potato chop every day. Many people like to eat it with Bhunja.
Idea came in Sinheshwar fair
Talking to Local 18 Bihar, Brijbali said that he had come to Bihar from Azamgarh 40 years ago. At the same time, when he went to visit the famous Sinheshwar fair, seeing the demand for potato chop there, he made a plan to open a shop of Banarasi potato chop and bhunja. But could not find a place to open a shop in Sinheshwar, so set up a shop in front of Kumarkhand block. Now they are stuck here only. For Rs 5, they also give a potato chop along with tomato and coriander chutney.
