Every state in India is identified by its unique dish. In some places, Kadhi rice is famous and in some places the spices are its identity. But there are some places which come into discussion because of their strange food. Some time ago we had told you about the red ant chutney of Odisha. It is also eaten in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Today we are going to tell you about another such traditional dish of Chhota Nagpur.
The dish we are talking about is called Ufiya. Many people do not know about this dish. The reason why it is strange is because of the ingredients used in it. Yes, rainworms are used to make Uffia. Yes, the same insects which start flying around the lights as soon as it rains. This famous dish is made by roasting it.
This is how it gets ready
A person shared a video of making Uffiya on social media. In this cold season, rain was also seen in many areas. When it rained near the man’s house this winter, he saw these insects around the lights. He caught hold of these and made them Uffiya. To make this dish, he first washed all the insects with water. After that they were roasted in the fire.
Roasted twice
The person told that these insects have to be roasted twice. In one time its wings separate while in the second time this insect gets cooked properly. After roasting the insects, it is mixed with bhunja made from rice. The man not only made Uffiya but also ate it with his family. Although Ufia is eaten only during the rainy season, but due to the rains in January, Jharkhandis were able to eat it this time even in winter.
