Himachal Pradesh By Election 2024 CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s reaction on wife Kamlesh Thakur contesting Dehra bypoll from Congress

Himachal Pradesh Bypoll 2024: On Tuesday, Congress declared Kamlesh Thakur, wife of Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, as its candidate for the assembly by-election to be held on July 10 in Dehra of Kangra district. CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has now reacted to this. He has said that the party high command has asked me to field my wife in the assembly elections. Earlier, on behalf of the high command Lok Sabha Elections I was also asked to fight.

CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu further said, “After the survey, my wife’s name came up, but I still refused. I myself want only one person from the family to enter politics, but given the kind of political situation in the state, I was asked to contest from my wife’s home seat to fight the battle. When the time came to take a decision, I accepted the decision of the high command.

Kamlesh Thakur will face Hoshiar Singh

Let us tell you that CM Sukhu’s wife Kamlesh Thakur will contest against BJP candidate and two-time MLA Hoshiar Singh. Hoshiar Singh won this seat as an independent candidate in 2022. CM Sukhu is a four-time MLA from Nadaun in Hamirpur district, located near Dehra. By-elections will be held on July 10 for three assembly seats in Himachal – Dehra, Hamirpur and Nalagarh and the results will be declared on July 13.

On behalf of BJP, K.L. Thakur will contest from Nalagarh and Ashish Sharma from Hamirpur. They will face Congress’ Hardeep Bawa and Pushpendra Verma respectively. In 2022, K.L. Thakur and Ashish Sharma won as independent candidates before joining the BJP earlier this year. Both, along with Hoshiar Singh, resigned from the assembly membership in March and joined the BJP. On June 4, the speaker accepted their resignations. After this, by-elections became necessary.
