The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

The BJP had fielded Vinendrasinh Dilipsinh Zala on the Himmatnagar assembly seat in Sabarkantha district. His tough challenger was Kamleshkumar Jayantibhai Patel from the Congress. Vinendrasinh Dilipsinh Zala of BJP defeated Kamleshkumar Jayantibhai Patel of INC by 8,860 votes. BJP candidate got 98,792 votes while Kamleshkumar of Congress got 89,932 votes.

Deposit of seven candidates forfeited
AAP came third in this election, its candidate Nirmalsinh Ajabsinh Parmar got 10,011 votes, which was only 4.9 percent of the total votes. Here the deposits of seven including BSP and AAP candidates were forfeited. Whereas, NOTA got 2,456 votes. The BJP had given ticket to Vinendrasinh Dilipsinh Zala in place of sitting MLA Rajendrasinh Chavda from Himmatnagar seat. The BJP has won seven elections here so far. BJP has won this seat for the second consecutive time. Himmatnagar is one of those seats where the BJP opened its account of victory in 1980, the year of its formation itself.

The Himmatnagar assembly seat was won by the BJP in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP had made Rajendra Singh Chavda its candidate from this seat. He defeated Kamleshkumar Jayantibhai Patel of Congress by just 1,712 votes. A total of 11 candidates were in the fray here. Apart from these two, the deposits of the other nine candidates were forfeited.

Congress had won four seats in Sabarkantha district in 2017.
In the last assembly elections, three out of seven seats in Sabarkantha district were won by the BJP candidate, while the Congress candidate managed to win four seats.
