Holashtak 2024: The word Holashtak is made up of two words Holi and Ashtak, which means eight days of Holi. Holashtak starts 8 days before Holi. According to religious belief, any auspicious program like wedding, marriage, mundan, housewarming etc. is considered prohibited during these eight days.

According to the legend, 8 days before Holika Dahan, Prahlad, a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, was tortured a lot by his father Hiranyakashyap. Hiranyakashyap had tortured Prahlad many times for seven days to remove him from his devotion to Shri Hari. On the eighth day, Hiranyakashyap’s sister Holika tried to incinerate Prahlad by making him sit in her lap but she failed.
