Spoon is one of the most used utensils available to us. It seems as if it has been present among us for centuries. But when we try to investigate its history, a very interesting story emerges. According to acsilver’s report, archaeological discoveries show that the first spoon was made in 1,000 BC. Then it was mainly used for decoration or religious use.

The first wooden spoons were made in Egypt
According to historical evidence, the ancient Egyptians were the first to use spoons made of wood, flint and ivory. These were quite impressive. Their designs were very special. Probably its purpose was to be used for decoration. Because they used to depict complex religious scenes on their bowls also. These were decorated with the help of illustrator and line drawings. Later, during the Greek and Roman empires, spoons began to be made of bronze and silver. Since they were made of expensive metals, they were mostly used by people from rich families.

Then gold and silver started getting ready
At the beginning of the medieval period in Europe (476 AD – 1492), spoons began to be made from horn, wood, brass and zinc. These were quite simple and looked very beautiful. The earliest mention of spoons in British history dates back to the reign of Edward I in 1259. Then it was said to keep it in the cupboard. By the 15th century, metal spoons began to replace the humble wooden spoons. During the Elizabethan period it started being offered in many sizes.
