What is the history of Kanchenjunga?
In the 8th century, a Buddhist monk named Padmasambhava Lopon Rinpoche worshiped Kanchenjunga as a goddess. Since then it has a different importance in Buddhist beliefs. Kanchenjunga, which consists of five peaks namely First, Central, West, South and Kangbachen, is believed by the local people to be protected by demons. The Tibetan community worships this mountain considering it to be Beyul Demoshong i.e. the world beyond death and suffering.
Whoever tries to climb it faces huge destruction. Unsuccessful attempts were made to climb it in 1929 and 1955. In such a situation, the weather became so bad that no one could climb it. Then in the year 1977, the Indian flag was hoisted for the first time on Kanchenjunga under the leadership of Colonel Narendra Kumar. This year, the government has declared Kanchenjunga along with the surrounding valleys and forests as national heritage. Even today these mountains are a big challenge for mountaineers. Hundreds of people come here with the intention of climbing it. Those who have hope that Goddess Kanchenjunga will bless them and they will be able to climb this mountain. Even today it is no less than a mystery for scientists.
