How does someone get security in India, who decides what level of security should be given to whom?

In India, you must have seen many politicians, actors and VVIPs accompanied by security personnel. But do you know what kind of security a person gets in India? Today we will tell you in which situation security is given to a political leader or a special person and who decides it.

Who gets security

In India, high-grade security is provided to the President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, MPs, MLAs, bureaucrats, former bureaucrats, judges, former judges, businessmen, cricketers, film stars, saints and some common people.

Who decides who will get security?

Now the question is, who decides who will get security and who will not? Let us tell you that if there is any threat to a VIP person, then it is the responsibility of the government to provide security. On receiving a threat, the person files an application in the nearest police station of his residence, after which the matter is sent to the intelligence agencies. When the threat is confirmed, a committee of the Home Secretary, Director General and the Chief Secretary of the state decides which category of security should be given to that person. After this, the details of the person are also given to the Union Home Ministry for formal approval.

These agencies have the responsibility of protecting VIPs

The responsibility of providing security of different categories to VIPs lies with different agencies. These include SPG (Special Security Group), NSG (National Security Guard), ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). ‘Z+’ category security is provided to VIPs/leaders/sportspersons and film stars. NSG provides ‘Z Plus’ category security to VIPs and VVIPs on a large scale. Many NSG commandos also protect the Prime Minister under the Special Security Group (SPG).

Which categories of security?

Z+ category security – Z+ is the highest category of security in India. It provides security cover of 55 personnel including 10+ NSG commandos + police personnel. Z+ security is provided by NSG commandos equipped with ultra-modern guns and modern communication equipment.

Z category security – Z category has a security cover of 22 personnel, which includes 4 or 6 NSG commandos + police personnel. It is provided by Delhi Police or ITBP or CRPF personnel.

Y category security – Y category has a security cover of 8 personnel, which includes 1 or 2 commandos + police personnel. In this, two personal security officers (PSOs) are provided.

X category security – X category has security cover of 2 personnel (no commandos, only armed police personnel).
