How is a nuclear bomb made, what materials are required?

The world is in the grip of war on many fronts. On one hand, Russia is fighting a war with its neighboring country Ukraine, and on the other hand, there is tension in the Middle East. Amidst these news of war, the atomic bomb is also mentioned. Many times there were reports that Russian President Putin could use nuclear bomb on Ukraine. This is tension-raising news for the world because the horrifying memories of Japan’s nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the Second World War are still fresh.

Even though the atomic bomb has been used only once in the world, even its mention shakes all the countries of the world. On one hand, many initiatives are being taken globally to stop war, but on the other hand, many countries are rapidly increasing their stockpile of nuclear weapons. Let us know what is a nuclear bomb? How does this work? How is it made? And how devastating could it be?

What is a nuclear bomb?

A nuclear bomb is a type of explosive weapon, which derives its destructive power from nuclear reaction. This bomb produces a nuclear explosion by combining nuclear reactions through nuclear fission or fusion. Releases huge amount of energy during explosion.

How does it work?

To make any atomic bomb, uranium or plutonium is required. Uranium-233 and plutonium-239 are used in making atomic bombs. It gets energy only from the nuclear fission of uranium or plutonium. For this, a neutron is hit in the nucleus of the atom. A huge amount of energy is obtained from this attack. This process is called nuclear fission. When a nuclear bomb is exploded, radioactive waves emanate from it, which cause the most damage. These waves also destroy living cells.

How much damage can a nuclear bomb do?

The world has different types of nuclear weapons. Some are so dangerous that they can destroy a city in a few minutes. This bomb is so dangerous that if it is dropped somewhere, life there may cease to exist for decades. Even the land in the affected areas may become barren, due to which even trees and plants will not be able to grow there.
