Let us tell you that Chandrababu Naidu government had released a report on Thursday, in which it has been claimed that the ghee used in making laddus for distribution to devotees at Tirupati temple has fat of three animals. Gram flour, desi ghee, cashews, raisins, cardamom and sugar are used to make laddus. But the report claims that foreign fat is also found in the ghee used in making laddus. Buffalo fat, fish oil and pig fat have been found mixed in the ghee used for the laddus.

Tirupati temple prasad?

The Chandrababu Naidu government has shared the report of the Centre of Analysis and Learning in Livestock and Food (CALF). The report claims that the ghee used in Tirupati’s prasad laddus contains many vegetable fats and animal fats. According to the report, soybean, sunflower, olive, rapeseed, linseed, wheat germ, maize germ, cotton seed, coconut, palm kernel and palm oil have been found in the laddus. Apart from this, it has also been found adulterated with animal fats like beef tallow, lard and fish oil.

Foreign Fat

Now let’s understand what animal fat is and how it is used. When a non-dairy product is used to make a dairy product, it is called foreign fat. The fat of ruminant animals like buffalo, sheep, goat, cow and deer is called beef tallow. It is a white colored fat at normal temperature. This fat is extracted from the rump roast, ribs and steak pieces of these animals. This fat is boiled and made like ghee. It is consumed a lot in foreign countries. Many people there use beef tallow as butter in bread.

How to identify whether it is pure or adulterated?

Now you must be thinking how to identify pure and adulterated ghee. It is not easy to identify whether ghee is pure or has animal fat mixed in it. Because the companies that adulterate it mix it in such a way that it is difficult to identify. It is also not possible to have a lab test of everything. However, many times you can try to find out by using your sense of smell. Apart from this, one spoon of ghee should be spread on a white paper. Let it remain like this for some time. On the other hand, if you see any stain on the paper, then understand that your ghee is adulterated. Because pure ghee does not leave any stain or blemish.
