18th in the country Lok Sabha Elections Counting for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is almost complete today, i.e. on 4 June. The Election Commission has announced the names of the candidates who won some seats. The counting process is still going on in some seats. But do you know after how much time of counting you can lodge a complaint regarding any kind of irregularity? Know what are the rules regarding this.
Electoral results
In the counting process that started at 8 am on June 4, the Election Commission has so far confirmed the victory of candidates on most of the seats. According to the Election Commission’s website, till 7 pm, BJP is seen getting 239 seats, Congress 99, SP 38, TMC 29, DMK 21, TDP 16, JDU 15, Shiv Sena UTB 9, NCP Sharad Pawar 7, RJD 4 and Lok Janshakti Party Ram Vilas 5, Shiv Sena Shinde 7 seats.
Complaint regarding error
The question is that if there is any kind of irregularity during counting, then till when can the general public or the opposition complain about it to the Election Commission. According to the rules, if there is any irregularity at the counting center, any citizen of the country can complain. However, this complaint should be made within 24 hours. It is not that you can complain about counting after a few days. Not only this, if you see a person with a weapon in his hand around the counting center i.e. within a radius of 50 meters, see a person entering the counting center, or any other illegal activity which you suspect, you can complain about it within 24 hours, the Election Commission will take immediate action on your complaint.
To whom can you complain
Any citizen can make a complaint regarding the election within 24 hours of the election results. You can first make a complaint related to the election to the Returning Officer. If the Returning Officer does not take action on your complaint, then you can complain to the District Election Officer through phone or email. Not only this, you can also go to the control room of the Election Commissioner’s Office of Delhi to complain. If a person complains on toll free number 1950, then he gets a tracking number. Due to which his complaint is considered valid and the citizen gets to know to what extent action has been taken.
