What is Agni missile?
The Agni missile is an indigenous medium-range ballistic missile developed by India. India’s Agni missiles have been developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of the Government of India. These missiles have the capability to carry nuclear weapons and also have a very long range. The Agni missiles range has several variants, such as Agni-1, Agni-2, Agni-3, Agni-4 and Agni-5. Of these, Agni-5 has the longest range and can hit targets up to about 5000 kilometers. This missile is an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), which is capable of causing deep damage inside any enemy country.
The first launch of Agni-1 missile took place on May 22, 1989 from Wheeler Island (now Abdul Kalam Island) in Odisha. Its initial range was 700-800 kilometers. Apart from this, the range of Agni-4 missile is 4,000 kilometers. It is a two-stage solid fuel system missile. It weighs 17 tonnes and is 20 meters long. The range of Agni-5 missile is more than 5,000 kilometers. It is a development of Agni-III IRBM. It launches on street-mobile launcher. Whereas the range of Agni-VI missile is between 9,000 to 12,000 kilometers. With a nuclear payload of 3 tonnes, its range is expected to be between 9,000 and 12,000 kilometers.

What is the speed of Agni missile?
India’s Agni-5 missile, which is the most modern and powerful, has a range of about 5000 kilometers. This means that it is easily able to reach any corner of Pakistan. If we assume that Agni-5 was tested under normal conditions, then according to calculations based on its speed and firepower, it could take just 7 to 10 minutes to reach any city in Pakistan.
But if we try to convert it into seconds, the speed of the Agni missile is approximately 24,000 kilometers per hour (15,000 miles per hour). This means that this missile flies at a speed of approximately 6.7 kilometers per second. From this it is estimated that if Agni-5 is fired on any major city of Pakistan like Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad, then this missile can reach the target in only 1 to 1.5 minutes. That means, it will take 60 to 90 seconds for India’s Agni missile to reach inside Pakistan.
