Shooter
Shooting is one of the oldest sports in the Olympic Games. It is one of the nine sports included in the modern Olympic Games held in 1896. Shooting has been included in all the Summer Games except St. Louis 1904 and Amsterdam 1928. At Los Angeles 1984, women’s competition was included separately in the Olympic program.
Let us tell you that in the last few years, the performance of Indian players in the shooting event of the Olympic Games has been quite good. It is worth mentioning that during the three consecutive Olympic Games held between 2004 and 2012, Indian shooters won four medals, in which Abhinav Bindra’s name is also included. Abhinav Bindra had the distinction of becoming the country’s first individual gold medal winner in Beijing 2008.
Which rifles, pistols and shotguns in the game
According to the information, three types of guns are used in the Olympic shooting event. These include rifle, pistol and shotgun. In rifle and pistol events, athletes aim at stationary targets in an indoor shooting range, while the shotgun event is held outdoors, where shooters have to aim at targets thrown in the air. All shooting is done from a fixed distance of 10 meters, 25 meters, 50 meters, in which athletes have to target the target.
Game types
Rifle Shooting In this, athletes aim at a board placed at a fixed distance, on which 10 concentric circles are made. This event is divided into two different categories. The first is 50 meter rifle 3 position and 10 meter air rifle. Let us tell you that in 50 meter air rifle, the player aims at the target in 3 positions – kneeling (sitting on the knee), prone (lying on the ground) and standing (standing straight). At the same time, every player fires 40 shots in the above three positions in the stipulated time limit of 2 hours 45 minutes. Apart from this, the 8 shooters with the highest score compete in the medal round. Apart from this, in 10 meter air rifle, every athlete fires 60 shots in the stipulated time limit of 1 hour 15 minutes, after which the top 8 shooters compete for the medal.
Pistol Shooting The competition is divided into three parts. It includes 25 meter rapid fire pistol, 25 meter pistol and 10 meter air pistol. Here the players have to shoot with one hand without any support. However, only male shooters participate in 25 meter rapid fire pistol, where the shooters have to fire shots continuously in short periods of eight, six and four seconds. The qualification round consists of two rounds of 30 shots each. The eight shooters with the top score qualify for the medal round.
Apart from this, 25 meter pistol is a women’s event only. Like the 25 meter rapid fire pistol event, here too there are two qualifying rounds of 30 shots each. The rules of the 10 meter air pistol event are the same as those of the 10 meter air rifle. Men, women and mixed teams participate in it. In the singles category (men and women), shooters fire 60 shots within a time limit of one hour and 15 minutes, after which the top eight shooters make it to the medal round. In the mixed team event, each member of the team fires 40 shots and the top five scoring teams compete in the final.
In addition, the most important Shotgun There are two competitions in trap. In this, athletes fire at an object flying at a speed of more than 100 km per hour, which has a diameter of just 10 cm and which is called ‘clay’. Both these events include men’s and women’s competition, while there is also a mixed team competition in trap.
Skeet In the shooting range, both male and female athletes fire at clay targets from eight different locations, known in shooting parlance as ‘stations’. The clay flies from two locations, one from the left and the other from the right end of the shooting range. These locations are called ‘houses’.
