High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) has now become mandatory in almost all states. Its purpose is to increase vehicle safety and streamline the registration process. HSRP test will start soon for all vehicles in Uttar Pradesh also. Transport Commissioner has asked RTOs and SRTOs to speed up the vehicle testing process for HSRP plates. The biggest challenge in this is that of two-wheelers. According to reports, there are more than 2 crore two-wheelers in the state which still do not have HSRP number plates. In UP, a fine of Rs 5000 can be imposed on vehicles without HSRP number plates.

What is HSRP plate?

HSRP is a special type of vehicle registration plate intended to protect vehicles from theft and misuse compared to traditional plates. HSRP plates are made of aluminum and are uniquely designed to prevent tampering and unauthorized removal. The specialty of HSRP is its permanent identification number, which is imprinted on the plate through laser. Additionally, every plate is equipped with a blue chromium based hologram of Ashok Chakra and hot stamped film overlay on the registration numbers, providing additional security measures.

The process has been streamlined by the transport department for vehicle owners to comply with the HSRP mandate. An integrated web portal, www.siam.in, was created to ease the transition. Through this portal, vehicle owners can easily order their HSRP, choose the dealer location for installation and schedule a convenient installation date and time. Generally, the plate is ready within 15 to 20 days of application, and installation can be arranged shortly thereafter through a designated dealer.

Steps to apply for HSRP number plate:

  • Visit http://www.siam.in and click on “Book HSRP” in the upper right corner.
  • Fill the basic details like name, vehicle number, phone number, email address, state and district. Agree to the terms and click Submit.
  • Select your district and vehicle type (2-wheeler, 3-wheeler, 4-wheeler, or commercial vehicle), then select your vehicle brand. You will be redirected to one of four websites: bookmyhsrp.com, orderyourhsrp.com, getmyhsrp.com, or makemyhsrp.com.
  • Enter your vehicle details like number, chassis number and engine number. Provide your address, phone number and email for contact. Pay online. If you opt for an in-store fitting, choose a preferred date and time slot.
  • Once the payment is confirmed, you will receive a receipt. Keep a copy of this with you before going to the store for plate fixing. You can either get your plate delivered to your home or send it to a nearby showroom or workshop for easy installation.

The thing to keep in mind here is that these platforms do not provide the facility of cash on delivery, so make payment in advance. Following these steps will help you to get your HSRP number plate smoothly.

Follow these steps carefully to apply for HSRP number plate through the official website of SIAM. This will contribute to enhancing vehicle safety and compliance with regulatory mandates.

Vehicle owners, especially those with vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, must comply with the HSRP requirement. Failure to replace old number plates with new HSRP plates may result in penalties being imposed by the transport department.

The implementation of HSRP across the country is an important step towards enhancing vehicle safety and ensuring standardization in registration practices.
