The tradition started 40 years ago
This program also includes live music, food and drinks, dancing and singing. But the question arises that how did this practice start? Courage Polar Bear Dip was started on January 1, 1985. A woman named Gaye Courage asked her two sons Todd and Trent to take an early bath on the first day of the New Year. But he was not going. Then she challenged the boys to go and take a dip in the lake in this season, which would wake them up and she would consider them brave. Now if children are given a challenge, they take it up with fun. Both the boys along with some of their friends accepted this challenge and jumped into the icy water.

Brothers started a campaign for clean water
This tradition started from there itself. Next year many other people gathered there and gradually the number of people started increasing. When the brothers realized that many people had started coming there, they thought of connecting this tradition with a good cause. Then in 1995, in collaboration with World Vision Canada, he created a fund for the provision of clean water for developing countries. Now every year, along with the registration that takes place here, some contribution is also asked from the people. It is put in the fund. Since then, around Rs 11 crore has been collected.
