Poverty had become his ‘home’ and people’s rebuke became his ‘food and drink’. Children in school made fun of him and people in the neighbourhood insulted him by calling him the son of a rickshaw puller. The circumstances were such that he faced rebuke at every step. This is the story of a person whose entire childhood was spent in poverty, lack of resources, stress and rebuke, but he did not give up. He worked hard in his life and by becoming an IAS, he showed the society that even hardworking people have the right to live with respect.
Originally hailing from Banaras, Govind Jaiswal lost his mother when he was in the seventh grade. His father used to support the family by driving a rickshaw. All the children in school used to tease Govind by calling him the son of a rickshaw puller. Even if some children extended a hand of friendship, their family members would scold them. One day Govind went to a friend’s house to play. Then his father scolded his son and advised him to stay away from Govind. This hurt Govind a lot.
Govind, a victim of poverty and loneliness, started to feel that social prestige is the most important thing in the world. One day he asked his teacher what should be done so that our prestige is established in the society. Everyone respects us. The teacher said that in the future either become a big businessman or become an IAS officer. From then on, the thought of becoming an IAS took root in Govind’s mind.
