Recognizing the importance of tea and coffee, medical experts have also warned against excessive consumption of both due to possible health concerns.

When should one drink tea

Researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that tea and coffee contain caffeine. Apart from stimulating the central nervous system, this caffeine also motivates the body to become dependent on itself. The guidelines also mention the amount of caffeine found in tea and coffee, according to which a 150 ml cup of brewed coffee contains 80-120 mg of caffeine. Whereas the amount of caffeine in instant coffee is 50-65 mg and that of tea is 30-65 mg. ICMR has said in its advice that only 300 mg of caffeine should be consumed daily.

Drinking tea before and after meals is dangerous

While ICMR also advised avoiding tea or coffee for at least an hour before and after meals. According to researchers, because they contain tannin, which can reduce the body’s ability to absorb iron. Tannin binds with iron in the stomach, making it difficult for the body to absorb iron properly. This can cause health problems like iron deficiency and anemia. At the same time, it is said that excessive coffee consumption can also cause high blood pressure and heart related irregularities.
