Today women in the country are working vigorously in various fields. Big responsibilities of the country are on his shoulders. The two-day long Idea of India organized by ABP Network has started today i.e. on 23rd February. Three prominent personalities have participated in this program to talk about the participation of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In which Nandani Harinath, Deputy Director of ISRO, ISTRAC, Dr. Nigar Shaji, Project Director of ISRO’s Aditya L-1 Mission and Professor (Dr.) Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics have participated.
Important role of women in the development of the country
Dr. Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, who was present at the program, while sharing her journey, said that her parents were musicians. He said that he was well versed in Carnatic music and every morning he used to practice music. Although Dr. Annapurni said that her parents did not stop her from doing anything, the atmosphere at home was one of music. But when he came to know about my interest in science and astrophysics, he supported me. After completing my Masters studies, I started preparing to go out.
Nandani Harinath, Deputy Director of ISRO, ISTRAC, said that her family is a very educated family. He said that my mother was a mathematician and father was a bureaucrat. He said that because of this he has not faced much trouble in going out for studies or making his career. She said that not only this, when she was 8 years old, she used to go to school on a bicycle and when she turned 18, she got her driving license. He told that there was a very open and free atmosphere in our family. My father always used to tell us on different subjects including politics, science. So I can say that I have come here because of my parents.
Dr. Nigar Shaji, Project Director of ISRO’s Aditya L-1 Mission, said that right from the school days, I had to do something different, which no one did. He said that my father was a graduate and he was associated with farming. He wanted us to remain economically strong. She said that when I passed class 12, very few girls were pursuing engineering at that time. I wanted to do mechanical engineering, but because I was a woman, I could not get a seat there. After this I did electrical engineering.
Regarding ISRO, Dr. Nigar Shaji said that there is no discrimination of any kind in the Indian Space Agency. There is no discrimination between men and women here. If you show your capability that you can do some work, then you are allowed to do that work. This is how I got the opportunity to work on Aditya Mission.
Why was Aditya Mission started?
Dr. Nigar Shaji said that Aditya Mission was launched to make India at par with other space agencies of the world. He said that India has recently landed on the Moon. Such missions increase India’s prestige in the world and everyone sees its growing space power. Apart from being economically strong, it is also important to be strong in the technology sector, so that our value increases even more. Dr. Nigar Shaji further said that we are completely dependent on the sun. Therefore we need to study it. He said that ISRO is working for this. He told that ISRO has 50 spacecraft, which are present in space. Therefore, it is important to understand space weather, so that spacecrafts can be saved. He said that the changing weather of space can also be monitored through Aditya Mission.
