Rules for travelling without ticket and compensation

Railway Claims Tribunal: This is where cases of problems related to compensation to the family of people killed in a railway accident are heard. In 2014, a man named Deepak Thackeray died after slipping from a moving train. After his death, when the family demanded compensation from the railways, the Railway Claims Tribunal (RCT) refused to give compensation saying that the deceased Deepak Thackeray did not have a ticket for the journey.

The family opposed this and the matter reached the Bombay High Court. However, the Bombay High Court also upheld the decision of the RCT in this case and said that the railways will not give compensation to the passenger without a ticket. This means that if you do not have a ticket during a train accident, then you are not entitled to the compensation given by the railways.
