Celebrating Valentine’s Day is prohibited in these countries
Valentine Week, which starts from 7th February, ends with Valentine’s Day on 14th February. In this week, couples celebrate many days like Rose Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day and Teddy Day. Everyone’s purpose of celebrating this day is to express love. However, in some countries it is considered against religion, due to which there is a ban on celebrating it.
Malaysia
There is a ban on Valentine’s Day in Malaysia. In the year 2005, a fatwa was issued against celebrating it in the Islamic country Malaysia. The reason given behind this was that February 14 is used as the gateway to the ruin and moral degradation of the youth. Many couples find ways to celebrate it in this country, due to which many couples who express their love have been arrested.
Iran
Celebrating Valentine’s Day was officially banned in Iran in 2010. The government considered Valentine’s Day to lead to decadence. The government here is so strict that even Valentine related gifts have been banned. At the same time, if a couple is found dancing together then they can be punished with delay.
Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan got independence from the Soviet Union in the year 1991. Valentine’s Day was celebrated in this country till 2012. This year, the Department of Education Ministry, which oversees the promotion of knowledge and values, decided to ban it. Since then, people are encouraged to celebrate the birthday of Uzbekistan’s hero Babar on 14th February.
Pakistan
A citizen in Pakistan had filed a petition in the High Court against Valentine’s Day in 2018 and said that Valentine’s Day is against Islamic teachings. After which the court there banned it.
Saudi Arabia
Valentine’s Day was not celebrated in Saudi Arabia. It was believed here that whatever happens on Valentine’s Day is against Islamic ideology. In such a situation, even shopkeepers did not sell goods related to it. However, in the recent past, it has started being celebrated at some places.
